You may have heard about Apollo Bay before, let me tell you about our ‘paradise by the sea’ and why you should come and visit us.
Besides white sandy beaches and clear blue waters Apollo Bay has much more to do, if you want to stay active or just here to relax you will find something you will enjoy.
Located on Point Bunbury, Apollo Bay Golf Course is exposed to the elements here the level of difficulty can vary with each day. The nine hole course comprises four par three and five par four holes. As there are two tees on some holes and two greens on another, an interesting eighteen holes can be played. Try not to become too absorbed in your game and enjoy the fabulous scenery all around the course.
Just located on the corner of Moore and Pascoe Street the Apollo Bay Bowling Club is a family friendly club where people of all ages come to have a great time have, have a chat and play some lawnbowl in great atmosphere. If wanting to see the best of the Bay you might want to head out and hike up Marriners Lookout,the lookout is located on top of the hill sitting just north of Apollo Bay. An easy 10 minute walk from the carpark is rewarded with spectacular ocean, beach, hinterland and town view. If you’re feeling more energetic, walkabout 1.5 kilometres north from Apollo Bay along the beach or Great Ocean Road, then climb a steep hill along a surfaced road for another 1.5 kilometres to the lookout track (take heed of passing traffic).
If interested in historical sites do visit the Cape Otway Lightstation, you can walk their well maintained grounds, explore the Lighthouse and experience how life was like for men and women that worked and lived here hundreds of years ago. Join one of their guided tours to find out more about the historical value of this place alongside aboriginal culture and local bush tucker. We also have a great foreshore market every Saturday of the week where you could purchase a few handmade gifts for friend and family. Our indoor farmers market is on every Sunday of the month, here you can buy some fresh local produce and taste what our region has to offer. Other great things you can do and visit when in Apollo bay with are the various waterfalls and their picturesque walking trails, Melba Gully fern tree walk (visit at night and see the spectacular glow worms), going on a platypus canoe tour with Otway Eco Tours down at Lake Elizabeth or tasting some great local wines at the Tastes of the region just behind the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse.
You sure will be amazed by how much there is to see in and around or little coastal town.
